As a wedding planner, I always encourage couples to consider ways to include all members of their family in their special day. Nieces and nephews can play important roles in the wedding and it’s a great opportunity to involve them in the celebration. Here are some ideas for including your nieces and nephews in the wedding:
So, How To How To Include Nieces And Nephews In Wedding
Plan a special event for your nieces and nephews
You may consider planning a special activity during or after the wedding ceremony, depending on how old your nieces and nephews are.
For a younger age group:
- Organize a scavenger hunt of photos around the venue to get an extra picture with each guest at the party by including items from every table!
So instead of just getting name tags for the kids, you could use them to incorporate a fun game during or after your wedding.
This way instead of just standing in line with everyone else when it comes time for pictures, they can take part in this scavenger hunt and find their parents!
It’s also much faster than waiting around while each kid gets their picture taken with all the guests!
For an older age group:
- You can try having a fun activity during the reception, like decorating bandaids for your wedding party to give out at their table. Or you could just have them do it before they come in so they are ready when everyone starts lining up. It’s a fun way to keep the kids entertained during this part of your special day.
- Have them decorate something for you! This is a great activity that they will have made just for you and it’s also not too time-consuming either!
If you want, let them make ornaments with their handprints on or have them decorate a guest sign-in book for you as well.
Include them in the wedding party
Having nieces and nephews at the wedding party will always be a special moment for everyone. Even though they may behave differently, don’t worry too much about it! You can make them stand out by giving them an outfit that is different from what others are wearing at the time of their duties.
If you have more than one nieces or nephew at the wedding party, let them wear different colors so that it is easy for you to recognize who they are. Just make sure their outfits match the overall theme of the wedding!
This way, you will be able to remember them better on your wedding day. Even though they are not necessarily one of your bridesmaids or groomsmen, having nieces and nephews at the wedding party is just as great!
When it comes down to choosing who goes on what duty, there are a few things that you have to consider. Find out what each of your nieces and nephews is good at so that you can assign them the duties they are best suited for.
You should also consider how close they are to one another when assigning their responsibilities, as this will allow them to work together more effectively!
Of course, it’s fine if there aren’t any nieces or nephews at your wedding party, but it is a great opportunity to include them! If you can’t have one of your nieces and nephews as the ring bearer, then consider choosing another young member from the family that relates to this position. This will be sure to make for an even more special moment!
Take them on a fun outing to get their opinion on wedding dresses, cakes, flowers, etc.
You may want to get their opinion on a few different options and see what they like best. They will likely love this and you can make them feel special in the process.
Take pictures of your niece or nephew with each one to show their parents when they get home from the outing! This is also great for parent gifts. These outings are especially important in cases where you don’t live close to your niece and nephew.
Invite them to be part of the ceremony or reception by giving out roles such as flower girl or ring bearer. Giving roles to your nieces and nephews in the wedding ceremony or reception is a great way to involve them. This way they get to feel like they are part of the process and it will be a great memory for them.
It’s also important to think about who you want in your wedding party and how many people would fit comfortably there or not, rather than just putting everyone together. You don’t necessarily have to stand by each other during the ceremony.
Think about the logistics of who will sit where, and how it can all work. Remember that you should have a minimum number for each category to make sure everyone is represented equally.
You may even want to consider having multiple people in some categories if they are close friends/family members or only one person would not be able to handle filling the role on their own.
Depending on the size of your party, you may have multiple people in certain categories or no one at all. That is completely acceptable and it’s up to you how many attendants there are. You can also definitely ask someone who isn’t related to coming with you too!
